I think one of the most stressful parts of getting ready for family photos is coordinating outfits! Before you go unloading your whole family’s dressers and drawers, you can simplify this process with a solid plan – pick a palette. Start by selecting about three neutral and nearly neutral colors and base most outfits using those colors. From there, you can add one or two accent colors! Give me all the feel good, giggly, lovey dovey photos!!! Bellin & Jordan are just each other’s perfect match and I could not be more excited for their growing family (so soon!!!) We chose to start their announcement photos at Acola coffee because Bellin had mom & dad mugs she wanted to use for the announcement! From there we headed to some of my favorite downtown spots together. It was truly the happiest shoot!

The dreamiest surprise engagement from February!!! If anyone remembers the last minute addition to my giveaway (AKA an additional February mini) just know that the mastermind @brendan_roast was behind it! He reached out to me in January to see if we could make Maddie a “fake” winner of a mini session so that he could propose... with a photographer... without her having a clue! Maddie actually set the date and time and everything! In fact, she told me she wanted “Photos of her and her dogs, and then a few with her boyfriend” – HA! The best part of surprising her was that after the initial shock (and easy yes!), she put the pieces together and said, “Wait... so I’m not a winner???” Brendan knows her well and told me beforehand that those exact words would come out of her mouth after the proposal 💍 Here’s to the future Rosts! Another fun fact: These two are responsible for us getting a second pup – they gave us the two dog fever!!!

Talk about a unique location choice! Olivia wanted something a little different for her senior photos and dreamed of an Italy-inspired backdrop. There was no better place than the winery in Rocheport. When we rolled up that morning, there was a crazy thick fog that made her photos that much more special! It is absolutely crazy to me to look back on how this all started 😳 In 2016, I made a New Year’s resolution to take a photo on my camera every day for the entire year (and document it on my first photography account @kydrophotos). I had never been one for New Year’s resolutions and there was no rhyme or reason for it - I was in no way planning for photography to turn into my career. I truly had no kind of end goal in mind. Honestly, I think I was feeling a little lost in all the change going on around me (aka moving to a new state and going to a college where I didn’t know a single person) and needed something to focus some creative energy on. It was not easy and there were really many times I wanted to throw in the towel. I carried my camera along with me wherever I went and didn’t always capture images I was super proud to show off. If you knew me during that time, you probably heard me on more than one occasion say “Shoot! My photo of the day!” near the end of the night. But this will forever be one of my favorite resolutions. I learned SO much simply by forcing myself to document things. Some days were less glamorous, and some days I really got my creative juices flowing and played with light, color, photoshop and more elaborate ideas. Through it all I found my footing and my camera became a part of me! Photo of the day helped me experiment and go outside my normal photography comfort zone, and ultimately gave me my first clients! Not to over simplify it, but my hobby turned into a side job which turned into my real, big-girl full time job 🫶🏻😁 My style took a 180, the day to day tasks & goals are new, the kinds of photos I take are different, but my heart for it still the same! (And honestly has probably grown even bigger) So thank you all for sticking around and trusting me to capture your memories! And especially thank you if you’ve been around since the @kydrophoto days!!! 📸

Case’s first camping weekend!!!! I’ve been trying to spend this season focusing on our fam because wowza the time is going by so fast! I’ve been having to remind myself that while I love my business and could work all the time, one of the biggest reasons I dove into it full time was to prioritize family moments and have a biz that works well for me, not for me to constantly try to keep up and work for it. During the past month, that has looked like: - Minimal social media! It’s been nice to take a little step back from the constant race that is socials for my biz - Weekends at home when possible!!! Working hard to not let myself be on call 24/7 and taking time to be unplugged from work - No working in the evenings (besides shoots). I only get so many bedtimes when Case is this tiny! - Being fully booked & meaning it! I love my job and I could easily book up all my evenings, this has been a big season of learning to say no (and hey, I’m starting to get a little better at it!!) - Reworking what KTP will look like next year Overall, I’m working on trusting that God will sustain us through these little changes and allow us to shift our focus to quality time! A little vacation recap & an official “I’m back in office!” Michigan was an absolute blast! Beautiful views, lots of family time and plenty of much needed r&r 🩵 Case loved exploring all the new places! We went blueberry & cherry picking, had lots of beach time, visited sleeping bear dunes, biked along old train tracks, bopped around traverse city & suttons bay shops, and spent plenty of time at our Airbnb playing with the kiddos ✨ One thing I have learned this past year is just how important time off is! It’s so nice to be able to reset and come back excited to dive back into my work. Definitely helps keep the burn out at bay 😁 Hope you all had great weeks!!
